Wahz so tired after doing my laundry for the 2nd time since I moved into this house. The washing machine really does work really slowly lor... as does almost evrthing else here in UK! Took almost 2hrs to wash my clothes. In the meantime I went to wash my socks by hand cos I'm afraid if I dump it in together with the rest of the clothes evrthing would get "polluted"!
Aniwei my whole body has been aching since Wed after going playing soccer in the Lonza League. The fermentation team was short of players so Kelvin got me to join the team with him. Initially I still thot the company league sure got alot of lao kok kok and ah peks one... wah how wrong I was! Even the ah peks all super big sized one lor! And so skilful summore! We played against Purification (dunno will get into trouble anot since I'm supposed to be in Purification!!), and it was 5-a-side with rotating subs. It was an astro turf pitch almost 2 times the size of a street soccer court. Since my team only had 6 players, none of us had very much rest in between. No help from the fact that there were walls so the ball wun go out of play one! But high balls were not allowed! Haiz summore I did a overhead clearance thot so saye... then the ref had to blow for a "high ball" violation! Chey!
Aniweis the opponents all super big sized lor... the next day I went back and pointed out to the guys all of em agreed dey were almost double my size!! I tried my best le, but couldnt out-rough them leh.. while bringing the ball down the flank at full flight once, one of them came bundling into me, totally sending me flying! I landed hard on my shoulder, and now got a gash on my left shoulder, scratches on my left elbow, cuts on my left knee, a cut on my left toe and a bruised backside! Then worse ah..back hurting like crazee, and neck so stiff it hurts when I try to turn it left right up or down! But overall I still did ok lah (though we lost to the classier opposition 7-2 >.<)... I figure next time must try to run at them more.. since dey all so dua jiak shd be able to get around them one haha!
On Thursday I performed an impossible task (impossible is nothing!). I cooked a proper meal for my housemates! Well in fact I cooked 2! I promised in a moment of impulse I'd do the cooking on Thur, and there was no turning back from then le! By the time we lugged the groceries back from the supermarket miles away (Elaine brought us to this cheap supermarket all the way in Farnham) it was oredi 7pm. So we set about our tasks. On the menu was Carbonara spaghetti (start from the not-so-hard one 1st mah).
In order to facilitate cooking next time... here are the steps I followed (for my own reference lah haha!)
1. Peel off fats and cut up bacon (dinno bacon can be so mashy one!)
2. Cut mushrooms (slippery sia... nearly got my fingers there)
3. Chop up garlic (master chef Wen Seen taught us a good way of getting the skin off the garlic ;p)
4. A 'lil oil in the wok, followed by the garlic to fry
5. In goes the bacon strips (din really look all that strippy by now) and fry summore (whiffs of a nice aroma by now).
6. When the bacon is half-cooked, throw in the mushrooms (way too much mushrooms drowned out the meat!)
7. Pour in the carbonara sauce (Asda brand.. cheep and goot!) and simmer.
8. Sauce too little not enuff for the 4 of us, so we added half a glass of milk to thin it out abit.
9. On the sidelines, the spaghetti was bubbling in the pot oredi.
10. Out comes the spaghetti onto the plates, and on goes the sauce.
11. We added alot of pasta herbs, and (me only) alot of pepper!
12. Finally I cracked an egg over my pasta just like they do at posh restaurants haha (well only I did that cos the rest of them, being too health conscious din quite trust the idea ;p)
13. Voila... gastronomical perfection! (Yah yah as if...)
Well at least I thought it was good (all this typing is making me hungree again!) and it looked good! Haiz took so many fotos of the cooking session but my camera ate it up (too delicious le mah) in 1 frustrating moment yesterday! I protected the cooking fotos, then pressed "delete all unprotected". Then the protected fotos kena deleted oso!!! Arrgh! All my sweat and blood! Bo bian lah... now I'm gonna cook carbonara again next week to get the fotos back. Watch out housemates!!
After dinner.. another challenge.. cooking the following day's lunch. I planned to do spaghetti meatballs this time round. There was still turkey mince in the fridge, so we used that. To the mince we added corn flour, the herbs, an egg, pepper, salt and 3 spoonfuls of red wine (sounds good hor!). However, the mix looked too mashy to become solid meatballs, and Jieli suggested throwing them into water to boil. But I din want the meatballs to come out like those in meatball porridge leh... so I tried to fry it aniweis! Added oil to the wok and threw in a ball of the mix. Ok lah... it wasn't a perfect sphere in the end, but I thought the texture, the colour and especially the taste were great! The others decided to go on with their "porridge meatball" plan cos they were so scared of the oil (it was only a little oil wat!)! Haiyah to me as long as I enjoy the food lah... I've been eating too healthy for too long le haha! Next was to prepare the sauce. I threw the onions that Jieli had chopped into the wok and fried them (wah now then I noe fried onions smell nice one! for that I din pick out the onions when I ate my pasta later!) This was followed by the mushrooms, and finally the sauce! In the end, this too turned out quite nice. I was especially proud of my meatballs (which I've fondly labelled "gao-sai" due to their shape) despite doubtful glances from the rest. Haha I let Charles and Tessa and Carine and Shuhui try the next day and they said nice mah!
Alritey... next planned cooking session... pasta again to get my fotos back!! Well.. not exactly lah.. cannot eat it 2 weeks straight one... else will get sick of it le... Maybe we'll pick something from Jieli's mum's recipe book to whip up this time! Till then.. Chef Sen signing off!
