I'm home!!!!!!!!!!!!! The long long countdown ended with amidst much fanfare as I boarded the 1st ever A380 flight from London to Singapore. I was actually abit worried since it was the giant's maiden journey and.. ahem remember Titanic? Haha but of cos that's all baseless worrying lah.. In fact we were made to feel like stars sia.. there was a reception at the boarding gate area, complete with tv crew and journalists and photographers and balloons and champagne! And they kept shoving little freebies at us lor.. starting from the check-in.. we were ushered ahead of the queue of pple taking other flights, got our check-in done in a flash, and had a commemorative luggage tag and an invitation to the reception shoved at us. At the reception a laptop bag was hurled at us, chucked full of goodies from the 'sponsors' of the flight and various advertisers, including 2 pens courtesy of Rolls Royce the engine manufacturers!
The flight itself was nothing special apart from the tv crews dragging their gigantic video cameras and woolly mics and miles of cables up and down the aisle. The cabin was much wider than the conventional jumbo jet cabin, and there was this beautiful staircase spiralling up to the upper deck at the back of the plane.. I really wanted to sit in the upper deck, but those seats were not open for selection during check-in, so bo bian lor... but I was oredi very glad I got to be part of such a historic moment in the evolution of aviation history, and wat more Lonza was paying for it haha! But Lonza did get "chop-carrothead" by their own travel agent, which is normally the case when the HR in the company doesn't feel the pinch and the agency gets the business no matter how much they quote! In the end they earned 400pds more than wats being offered on the internet lor! Mebbe I should go open a travel agency too..
Despite all the hoo-ha of the seats being much wider than other plane seats, I didn't feel much difference at all! The poor big-sized angmoh next to me was squashed in his seat lor.. summore when he laughed out loudly when talking to me the stewardess talked to him in a reprimanding tone that reminds me of a primary sch teacher, and even threatened not to serve him anymore alcoholic drinks! so... alot of fanfare.. but I think the SQ service of this new era is not quite so Q anymore.
But no matter.. any flight that gets me back home is a good flight! We landed in the new terminal 3.. to more fanfare (yawnz) a jazz band was on hand to receive us but I was more interested in the big "First to fly" board haha.. scanned my thumbprint to get past immigration (5sec as compared to 30min in London!!!) and I was officially home!
In the 6 days since then, I've been busy meeting friends, eating all the Singapore food I can find, taking fotos of the food (as usual) ;p , spending time with family, watching football (even thou it was agonising watching Liverpool get ripped apart by Man U). I even managed to squeeze out time for 2 runs and gym sessions.. wah but its some getting used to running in the heat again after 9 months of running in the freezing cold! And I went to highlight my hair! I wanted to save on the haircut in UK, but ended up coming home and spending so much on impulse! Haha but no regrets lah... must try it once mah.. and it turned out quite okie in the end.
And I went to my aunt's new "dreamhome"... wah really quite a sight.. I think its comparable to some of the Chateau in France lor the way she's decorated it Art-deco style. No wonder she was boasting that 4 magazines wanna feature her home in their articles.. haha well but the thing that impressed me the most was the entertainment room.. in there is a karaoke system with songs as updated as you can get anywhere, and sound effects that were astonishing! We tried out the system oredi.. and it really is good! Haha so from now no need to go splash out $$ at K-box le woohoo!
Alrite then.. i'm starting to type too much again... I think I better stop soon... before that.. I'll be leaving S'pore (sadly) again next Sunday.. so do find me to meet up soon okie?
